What is the purpose of using Twitter in our 2nd grade classroom?
We micro blog through Twitter to share, connect, and collaborate with parents, other students, and the world around us while practicing writing skills and proper social media netiquette. Twitter enables my students to:
- Learn social media netiquette and digital citizenship in a real world context https://www.commonsensemedia.org/
Students learn that a tweet without a picture can be tagged with – By and then the students first name.
Students learn that if they use a picture in their tweet, they cannot tag the picture or name who is in the picture.
- Engage and connect with parents, professionals, and other 2nd grade classrooms around the world.
- Cover Nevada’s Computer and Technology Standards http://www.doe.nv.gov/
- Practice and analyze their writing skills to include complete sentences with capitalization, punctuation, and correct grammar.
- Meta cognitively think about and share what they are learning and why they are learning it in a precise 140 character format.
- Learn, write, and share with the world around them without any motivation from me, the teacher.
