The water cycle field trip was a huge success. A huge thank you to Nevada Outdoor School for hosting and teaching the kids about our local water shed and water cycle. Students learned about precipitation, collection, evaporation, condensation, and tributaries using examples form our local watershed.

2 Dimensional Polygons
We have started our geometry unit on shapes. Students are learning about 2 dimensional polygons. Vocabulary like quadrilaterals, line segments, angles, and vertices are just some of the words that we use to describe these shapes. Students went on a shape hunt and then labeled and explained their shapes. You can access their shapes via the student learning links.
STEM Rockets
Friday we did a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) challenge. The challenge was to create a rocket out of tape, one straw, and paper to fly the furthest distance. We learned about pressure, drag, thrust, and distance.
Mystery Geography Skype
This video was made by one of the students after our mystery geography skype. These skypes are like mystery number skypes but we use maps and locations instead of numbers. Students try and guess where the other students live before they guess where we live. Yes and no questions are asked. For example – Do you live east of the Mississippi River? This is a great question because you can take 3/4 of the states off the map based on this one question. Not only do the kids love it; we get to practice our speaking and listening skills, map skills, and working together to solve a problem.
