3D Printing

3D printing

Last week the gifted and talented students came in to our classroom a showed us how their 3D printer works.  We modeled how it worked with playdoe and then we were able to build 3D models using an app.  At the end of the day each student was able to take home a 3D printed boat from the printer.  It was a neat learning experience.  Special thanks to Mrs. Arendt and her students!

Fraction Cookies

Fraction cookies

We made fraction cookies to practice the 2nd grade fraction standard.  Students took orders and had to decide to split up their cookie depending on how many ingredients the order was for: whole,  halves, thirds, or fourths.  Then the cookies were made on paper and then on real cookies.  Yummy fraction practice!

Fossil Field Trip

Newmont's

Our field trip started with a presentation from one of our local Newmont geologist’s.  He taught us about the history of fossil hill and what we would be finding.

We then traveled to fossil hill and collected our fossils.

When we got back to class we classified our fossils according to the characteristics of the ancient sea life.

A huge thank you to Newmont and their geologists, parents that chaperoned, and the other 2nd Grade teachers who made this field trip a huge success.
